THANK YOU TO OUR SPONSORS FROM HOOK NORTON CRICKET CLUB
A very big thank you to those sponsoring the cricket club for the 2002 season. The main sponsorship, from Kumala wines, will enable us to have a bowling machine to use in the nets over the winter months to maintain the high standards set this year in both Junior and Senior cricket. Another sponsorship that has made an enormous difference to the mornings before the games for players and their partners, has been Gloria and Tom providing the cricket teas each Saturday throughout the summer. Not only can the team now concentrate on preparing the ground on the day rather than the teas, they can also skip lunch entirely knowing that a fantastic tea will be provided later in the day! The reputation of the Hook Norton cricket tea provided by the Mace store is spreading through the league – lets hope it attracts even more players to the club for next season!
John Sivyer has supported the cricket club over several years including providing equipment for the junior sections. This year we are extremely grateful for the Pear Tree Inn's sponsorship of our fixture card, which had to be expanded this year because of the increasing number of matches, particularly for the Junior sections.
I write this note after a gloriously sunny weekend - the 13th/14th July - the first really hot spell of the summer. As always the sunshine brings out the best in the Hook Norton teams. Both the 1st and 2nd XI's came out on top in two very close games. Let's hope that the fair weather is now set for the summer (you'll know by the time you get to read this!) so that we can continue to pile on the runs in the sunshine.
The Junior Cricket Club is having its most successful season ever, with the number of members increasing again this year and a very significant increase in the number of matches. All the games are played in the very best of spirit and it has been extremely rewarding for all those involved to see the skills of all the players, girls and boys, improve so much compared to the same time last year. There are so many individuals involved in the Junior section that it is not possible to thank each one of them here. However, Steve Belcher and Paul White deserve a very special mention. Not only do they spend the time on 2-4 evenings each week with the coaching, they also organise everything for the 100 junior members. An amazing commitment that has seen the Junior section grow from just 20 members 5 years ago and we are lucky indeed to have them in the village.
A special date for the diary is Thursday 1st August when there is a Barbecue and Presentation evening for all Junior cricket club members. We should have a field-full of junior cricketers, we hope to see you there.
We hope you feel the sun dragging you towards the cricket pitch. Please contact Tim Lunel or Colin Scarrett for further details of how you can get involved.

HOOK NORTON JUNIOR FOOTBALL CLUB
We are now preparing for a new season and plan to run 7 teams in age groups; U8 / U9 / U10 / U11 / U13 / U15 / U16). We will also run a Minis section for the under 8's. Girls are very welcome too, up to the age of 10 they play in the same teams as the boys. Over that age we would need to have enough girls interested to run a girls' team.
We also have a new Club Management Team of Chairman (Terry McKee), Secretary (myself) and Treasurer (Judi Chadwick), who were all voted in at the recent AGM.
We are now registering players into Hooky teams for the Witney & District Youth Football League for the forthcoming 2002-3 season. So if there are any budding 'David Beckhams' out there, it would be great to hear from them!
Matches for the new season start on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th September. Extra support is always appreciated by the team managers, so if any parents would like to help out in any way, please contact me.
Also, if any parents would like to learn the skills of being a linesman, then 1 day courses are being run locally over the summer for just £10.
We are also just setting up a new website for the club at http://www.hnjfc.co.uk. Here you will be able to keep up to date with all the Hooky Junior teams' fortunes.
We all hope that everyone involved with the club has a very successful season and that they enjoy playing football for Hook Norton.
Jonathan Thompson

Anti-Social Behaviour
On Tuesday 2nd July there was an attempted burglary at the Tennis Hut between 12.30 & 4pm. This was followed by criminal damage on Monday 8 July between 5 & 7pm. Three blue and white Slazenger 25” rackets have been stolen. If you are offered one of these rackets or see anyone acting suspiciously, please contact the Police who have been notified of these incidences.
