HOOK NORTON CRICKET CLUB
The season started late with several cancellations due to the weather and the first games were not played until well into May.
Simon Richards is captain of the 1st XI and this year five 16 and 17 year olds are now playing first eleven cricket on a rota basis. This has proved to be very successful and the boys have played well. Their fielding has been exceptional and is well worth watching. There have been some significant contributions with the bat too. The firsts have had a mixed season so far winning four losing five with three no results. Mel Riley and Tim Lunel both scored centuries although Dickie Knight has stolen the limelight by being top of the averages. Chris Barras stumped five against Oxford Caribbeans and took two catches and three stumpings against Garsington.
The Second Xl has had a quiet season so far losing more than winning. The Sunday friendlies started well without losing in their first five games and the Mid Week league side is through to the Final in the Knock Out Competition. In what is a short season the Seniors have 73 games this year, three times the number played 10 years ago.
The Juniors whose season is even shorter (but have indoor sessions in the winter) are flourishing. There are over 90 boys and 40 girls aged from five upwards and regular matches have been played by various age groups. It is interesting to see that the game is being taken up by more girls' teams in the county. The success of our youth policy has meant that the Club has been given Focus status by the County; a just reward for our hard working Junior cricket organisers Paul and Jackie White.

JUNIOR FOOTBALL IN HOOK NORTON SEASON 2004-05
Our new Hook Norton Junior Football Season 2004-05 starts on 18th September and pre-season training will start for each of our teams during August. We are planning to run six teams this season - Minis (age 5 to 7), Under 9's, Under 10's, Under 11's, Under 13's and Under 15's.
We are also aiming to nurture some of our older boys into the Hooky Reserves this season, as ties between our Junior and Senior Clubs become cemented through a merger into one single Hook Norton Football Club. If you have a child who would like to play football and is not already involved with one of our teams, please feel free to contact me in the first instance and I will put you in touch with the relevant team manager.

HOOK NORTON FOOTBALL CLUB
With the new league season beginning on 21st August, training is already under way and friendly matches have been planned under the guidance of new First Team Joint Managers, Anton Sambrook and Ben Spiero, together with the assistance of the experienced duo, Adrain White and Mark Willis who, once again, will be the 'bosses' of the Second Team.
Whilst the First Team has now accepted the disappointment of demotion to Division 1(West) of the Hellenic League for reasons that have been well documented in the past, it is now looking forward to new and interesting challenges with such teams as Trowbridge Town and Tytherington Rocks (from South Gloucestershire), as well as relishing encounters with near neighbours, such as Easington Sports, Adderbury Park and Middle Barton. Indeed, the clash with 'Sports' comes as early as on August Bank Holiday Monday, when Hooky entertain their Addison Road rivals in a 'Ground Hop' match at The Bourne, kicking off at 11.00 am.
As was reported in the last Newsletter, the Senior and Junior Football Clubs in the Village have merged with the object, not least, of providing a sensible structure for local young players to progress, if they are able, through the teams at the various levels with a view, ultimately, of becoming available for the Second and First Teams.
As the season progresses, I hope to report further on this aspect, as well as the eventual introduction of the new pitch and the new Clubhouse.
