BUSES
The new hourly bus service is proving popular, especially the 9.23 to Banbury (reintroduced after an absence of about 6 years). There is still a two-hour gap mid-afternoon, when one of the buses goes off to do a school run. New low-floor buses were promised, but have not yet been seen. Pocket timetables are in the shop, Post Office and library, if I can keep up with the demand.

PARISH COUNCIL INFORMATION BOARD

    MEMORIAL HALL
Because of falling income at the Memorial Hall the Parish Council has reluctantly decided that it can no longer afford the post of caretaker, and Doug Marshall has been made redundant. An advertisement will appear shortly for a cleaner. The Parish Council has thanked Doug for his work in looking after the Hall in recent years. He will continue in his post as Environment Warden in other parts of the village. All booking and other enquiries should now be addressed to the Parish Clerk, Ken Porter, 01295 758352. Booking forms are available at the Post Office.

  RECREATION AREA
We have experienced problems with graffiti in the Play Area recently. This is irresponsible and costs money to remove with a consequent effect on council tax. If anybody sees any offenders please report to our community police officer, Rosemary Dilsaver.
  LITTER BINS
It has been brought to our attention that soiled nappies are being placed in litter bins, particularly in the Recreation Area. This is an unhygienic practice and very unpleasant for the next person using the bin! Please dispose of nappies in the proper manner.

On a brighter note, the Music at the Crossroads Festival took place on Saturday 2 July 2005. Unfortunately and unusually, I was away for this years event; however I am reliably informed that the weather was good, the music even better and a good time was had by all. Certainly to my knowledge there were no complaints or incidents reported to the police and the event was enjoyed by a large number of people.
As I write this, the Hook Norton Festival of Fine Ales took place yesterday, 16 July 2005 at The Pear Tree Inn under blue skies and warm weather. Speaking to some who attended the event, once again it appears to have been a great success although one or two thick heads may have been around this morning!
I was unable to spend time at The Festival due to commitments in the Witney and surrounding areas but apart from some traffic problems, no complaints or incidents have yet been reported to the police.
July is always a busy month in the Hook Norton social calendar after which things return to normal, but let us enjoy the good weather, long may it continue! Schools of course break up on Friday 22 July until early September, so parents, please, encourage your children to respect other people and their property, mind the roads and have a safe and enjoyable holiday.
May the Force be with you!
