  MEMORIAL HALL NOTICEBOARD

Would parishioners please note that the noticeboard outside the Memorial Hall is for the use of the Parish Council, and to promote forthcoming events in the Hall, and is not to be used to display general notices

DISPOSAL OF CHERWELL DISTRICT COUNCIL ASSETS

As some parishioners will be aware, it has come to light that Cherwell District Council owns other assets in addition to the housing stock and a decision is to be made as to whether some of these assets should be included in the transfer to Charter Community Housing. The sites in Hook Norton are land at The Bourne and land to the rear of Wellbank and 31 and 33 Down End. The Executive has decided to retain the piece by The Bourne but the other piece is still under discussion. The Parish Council is to consider opening negotiations with CDC with a view to possibly renting the land just off The Bourne and converting it into a new play area, which would provide a safer environment for children. As a result the PC could then investigate the possibility of converting the existing play area for rented and part-purchased housing for the indigenous villagers, similar to that recently erected in Steeple Aston.

MEMORIAL HALL

The Memorial Hall is available for hire for regular or occasional events. The basic charge is £4.50 per hour. The Hall has been equipped in the past three years with new tables and chairs, and rebuilt toilets, including facilities for disabled users. Booking forms and conditions of hire are available in the Post Office, or contact the caretaker, Mr Doug Marshall, on 737666.

HOOK NORTON FOOTBALL CLUB As parishioners are aware the Football Club has appealed over Cherwell District Council's decision to refuse its application for the erection of a covered spectator stand and dugout and new floodlighting. In reflecting the wishes of the large majority of people who attended the open meeting last year the Parish Council will continue its opposition.

OUT OF THE BLUE
I hope I find everyone well and looking forward to a long, hot, balmy summer?! To keep you up to date, from 1st January to 14th May 2003 as I write this article, Hook Norton has suffered 10 crimes. To split those into more specific details, they are:
These are not the worst figures in the Chipping Norton area, but certainly they are 10 crimes too many. It is still amazing how many people don't lock their doors either at night or even when they are out in the back garden busy. Some crimes are difficult to prevent and often out of our hands, however we can all try to make things as difficult as possible for Burglar Bill.
Chipping Norton is changing Inspectors once again, Inspector HOWARD leaves for pastures new on 9
th June and Inspector Nick DEACON takes over. We have a new Sergeant in Sgt Kath LOWE; otherwise everyone else remains the same, for the time being.
The police are once again taking over Year 6 at Hook Norton School, starting Monday 30
th June for one week. The children will again have the opportunity to dress the part and, with the aid of a computer-based package, solve crimes, find missing people and above all arrest people. However, they will not be able to do that bit until all the evidence has been collected and filed in the proper place! The week will finish with a parade for parents and interested parties on Friday 4th July, after which the children will be able to show their parents exactly what they have been doing for a week!
A young boy was hit by a motor car and suffered quite serious injuries. Fortunately, the motor car was not travelling very fast, so please remember when you speed around Hook Norton or any other village, someone might just pop out in front of you, will you be able to stop? Our best wishes go to the lad and his family for a full and speedy recovery.
Finally, should you think there is anything my colleagues or I can help with, please contact us on 01608 648715 or e-mail to rosemary.dilsaver@thamesvalley.pnn.police.uk, and may the Force be with you.
