PARISH COUNCIL MEETINGS FOR AUGUST & SEPTEMBER 2001

REDUCE

SPEED

NOW

SPEEDING CONCERNS

Letters received from a number of
villagers expressing their concern
at the speed at which vehicles drive
down Chipping Norton Road were
discussed. Mr Barrell OCC Road
Safety/Traffic Engineer will be
visiting the village in October and
meeting with Councillors to discuss
this problem.

Planning Applications

The planning committee have been very busy during Aug & Sept. with 16 applications being inspected and reported on to the CDC, with 4 more waiting for discussion. 14 applications have been granted by Cherwell and 3 refusals.

Drains/Gullies

These should be emptied during September

THE BREWERY

New tourism signs for the brewery have been approved by the P.C. given the go ahead.

MEMORIAL HALL
TOILET REFURBISHMENT

The toilet for the disabled is complete, and the ladies toilets should be about finished by the time you read this.

Play Area

Proposed byelaws for the Play Area were drawn up but after discussion with the Police it was decided not to implement them for the time being.
Vandalism still remains a
problem and much of the
play equipment is
damaged.

Youth Club Building

Things are still moving in the right direction for the P.C. to hold the lease. So hopefully it will not be too long before this is finalised.

Your new councillor is Joe Williams From The Village Shop He reduces the average age of the Councillors considerably

The new trustee for Chipping Norton school is Mrs Anne Evans

Some work has been carried out in the cemetery to clear the undergrowth around some of the old graves. Quotes have been obtained for trimming and tidying up the trees. Cost of remedial work for some of the leaning old head stones has been obtained and will started very soon.

'HEAR HEAR'
I do so agree with your contributor on page 20 of the August Newsletter. There are some people, young and old in the village who unfortunately have never been taught to take rubbish home with them and dispose of it wherever. We are fortunate to have wheeley bins which take twice as much rubbish as a dustbin or polythene bag so there is really no excuse. However, for the fifteen years that we have lived in Hook Norton, I have picked up litter and rubbish from the verge below our bungalow at the bottom of Down End and if everyone did something similar we would not need a 'Keep Village Clean' day. (Mind you, if no-one dropped litter to begin with there would be no need to pick it up!)
The Green at the bottom of Down End continually has litter, bicycles, toys, ramps and go-carts - not to mention the noise, shouting and screaming. I can hear every (sometimes four lettered!) word; the fact is that we have a play area for children to which every rate payer contributes.
Please Parents - teach your children to be tidy and proud of their Village. It was nice to see in the Newsletter a tribute to Mrs Wise for keeping the grounds inside the Cemetery looking so good. I incidentally also walk to the bottle and can banks with my disposable items for recycling.

OUT OF THE BLUE
As you will have noticed, the nights are drawing in, winter draws on, so to speak.
May I say that this season's apple crop has proved useful to those members of the village who enjoy breaking windows and having apple fights in the street. The Playgroup has unfortunately suffered several broken windows as well as a resident in Bourne Lane who had an apple thrown through a lean-to window.
The damage in the play area has lessened. However one of the ramps was damaged to such a degree that it became dangerous and had to be removed. So keep up the good work!
The village has also been the target for more car crime and unfortunately several people have had their cars broken into for the second, if not third time. We must be more vigilant and report any suspicious incidents/people to the police.
Some of you may have noticed that I have started the Hook Norton Crime Busters on the notice board in the village shop. I intend to use this to bring to your attention some of the crimes and incidents that occur within the village and also to ask for your assistance in solving them. I will update the board with any progress.
My numbers as always are Chipping Norton Police Station 01608 648715, fax 01608 648724, e-mail rosemary.dilsaver@thamesvalley.police.uk

WEA COURSES 2001 - 2

Do you run a voluntary-based club/society?
Cherwell DC is working with the Council for Voluntary Services to draw together information on recreation activities and voluntary groups in villages. The idea is that villagers can find out about what is available in neighbouring villages. In the first place, the information will be on Cherwell's web site (cherwell-dc.gov.uk), with hard copy available. For information on putting information in or getting it out, phone Alison Davies on 01295 221575.

FARMERS' MARKET These need your support to get going.
Deddington's Farmers Market returns after 171 years (yes!) on Saturday September 22nd and every subsequent fourth Saturday of the month. Please come along.
