The final engagement of a busy summer season was Vera
Jones' Garden Party on 4th August at "Temple Close", Sibford. Despite
torrential rain the day before and a very dull morning on the day, the sun
shone beautifully for the event in the afternoon. Tables and chairs were
arranged on the terrace for the guests to sit and enjoy a delicious spread
whilst the band, seated on a lower level under shade of trees, played a
selection of light music. The splendour of the garden, as usual, was an
additional pleasure. Ron Glynn, M.D. was delighted to announce to the band the
wonderful news that Julie Jakeman, our flugal horn player, had given birth to a
bouncing baby boy, Adam. Vera's kind hospitality extended to the band
afterwards, with tea and cakes in her kitchen
