HOOK NORTON FESTIVAL OF FINE ALES
Following the highly successful 12th Festival which was held in July, the donation of the funds raised will be made at the appropriately named “Donations Evening” at the Brewery Visitor Centre (by kind invitation of Hook Norton Brewery Co.Ltd.) on Thursday, 20th October 2005 at 8.00 pm.
Will all helpers please accept this as their only invitation.
The next Festival will be on Saturday, 22nd July 2005
Thinking of next year's event, may we please make an appeal. We anticipate particularly needing help setting up the site during the day or two before and on the actual morning so if you think you can offer a couple of hours' help on the Friday

LIBRARY NEWS
The Library has been very busy during the summer. Thirty-five children took part in the Summer Reading Challenge. The theme was Voyage and each child was given a Logbook to start with and then stickers for every book they read. Along the way, fridge magnets, pencils and puzzles were awarded, to keep motivation going. By the time you read this, those that finished the Challenge, will have attended a ceremony where they will be awarded medals and certificates for their success. A big thank you to all parents and children for supporting this important and worthwhile event.
During August, four story times and activities were held on Wednesday afternoons, for 3 to 8 year olds and all were well attended. On one occasion there were 18 children, colouring, sticking and cutting to make a dazzling underwater collage for the Library. Thanks to Freddie Townsend for coming in to help.
The Library Open Day, the first of its kind, will be held appropriately, on 1st October. I will write more about it in the next newsletter but so far I have confirmation that the WI will be providing coffee and cakes. So we will all be in for a treat!
Hook Norton Primary School has arranged 4 Library visits over the next few weeks. Years 3 to 6 will all attend a Library Induction session and I'm looking forward to welcoming some new members afterwards. A Christmas story time has been booked for Nursery classes.
Penny Smith and I are planning a trip to Borders Bookshop in Oxford, to spend a generous donation from the 'Friends of the Library.' We have some ideas for both adult fiction and non-fiction, but suggestions from readers are always welcome.
As I mentioned at the recent 'Friends' AGM, customer service is of paramount importance. Any comments or views from the readers are of interest. So please speak to Penny, or me at the Library.
Sue Sinclair, Library Manager.

A Tomb With a View
The Hooky Players Summer Production
The nights of September 15th, 16th, and 17th, saw a complicated whodunit or should I say “who did them” performed by the Hooky Players. I think I can reliably say that the cast and crew all enjoyed the performances and we all hope that the audiences had a similar experience. Thanks to all of you who have supported us both with the current production and in the past.

On a personal note, I would like to thank the cast for all their time and hard work and for putting up with my demands. It was a complicated play to perform on a relatively small stage – well done!

A big thank-you also to the backstage crew and production team. They are the unsung heroes that allow the Director and cast to indulge themselves. You did a great job and didn't give me any sleepless nights. If I were to mention everybody by name, I would run the risk of overlooking someone.

Likewise our sponsors, particularly Stuart and Joyce at the Sun for providing rehearsal space and putting up with strange noises during the rehearsals.

And now for the pantomime...

Thank you all for your support -
Keith Disney, Director

HOOK NORTON BRASS BAND
We have concluded our summer engagements - Saturday 6th August at the Avon Dassett Fair being our last summer outing. It is an excellent fair with lots to do, the “Welly Wanging” pitch was a little too near for comfort at times.
The Band's practices are now held on a Monday evening at Banbury School, Ruskin Road, Easington - an excellent venue - also giving ample room for the occasional marching practice - challenging even in perfect conditions.
Please do come to our annual Autumn Concert at St Peter's Church, Hook Norton on Sunday 16th October 7.30pm. Admission is free & I'm sure you will find the evening's programme interesting. The voluntary collection at the end of the evening is apportioned between St Peter's Church & Cancer Research.
Jenny Barrie, our Musical Director has settled in wonderfully bringing an excitingly fresh perspective to the Bands music & programmes. As I write this article we are practising the music for the 16th October concert. Christmas music will then be our workload; again we have a busy period in front of us.
Nick Wilson joins us on 1st Baritone. Nick has re-located with his profession to the Banbury area - a very welcome addition to the Band.
As always, if you can play brass we are always pleased to meet you; give me a call.
